Within the framework of the Year of Arts and Culture designated by the African Union as well as the African Copyright Day, the Moroccan Copyright Office, the Ministry of Culture and their partners, notably the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) and the ANYA team, have organized a series of cultural events highlighting the two components of Africa and gender, designated by UNESCO as global priorities.
Artistic Residency "African Women in Jazz" - November 18 to 24, 2021
An artistic residency was organized from November 18 to 24, 2021, at Studio Hiba in Casablanca, bringing together 7 women from different backgrounds, to create a musical universe at the confluence of their artistic influences. The artists in residence are :
Mounaissa - MALI
Malian drummer from the city of Ségou and from a family of musicians, she is one of the pioneers of modern music in Mali.
Senny Camara - SENEGAL
A free-spirited harp-lute Kora player, she plays an instrument traditionally reserved for men, which she has used as an ally to accomplish herself as an artist but also as a woman.
Abigail Narkie Teye - GHANA
Ghanaian percussionist, instrumentalist and dancer, she plays Agbadja and Kpanlogo percussion, mainly used for cultural dances in Ghana.
Maria Sigaa - SENEGAL
Senegalese artist, composer and performer, she fuses the traditional rhythms of her native Casamance with modern musical styles such as reggae, blues and jazz.
Laura Prince - TOGO
Author, composer, performer and ethnomusicologist from Togo, she has always been inspired by world music to create her own authentic and sincere music.
Mahh Keita - SENEGAL
Bassist and Senegalese activist, she became a spokesperson for the albinos of Senegal through her association Care Albinos and her music.
Nelida Karr - EQUATORIAL GUINEA
Nicknamed "the diva of Equatorial Guinea", multi-instrumentalist and virtuoso guitarist, her music is a mixture of several influences including jazz and Afro-Cuban music.

African Women in Jazz" Exit Concert - November 25, 2021
An exit concert was held on November 25 at 7:30 pm at the Renaissance Hall in Rabat, to present the artistic creations developed by the artists during the residency. The guest artist Asmaa Hamzaoui was invited during the concert to perform with the musicians.
On the other hand, the pieces created by the artists will be recorded in a live video session format at Studio Hiba on November 24, which will be broadcast on digital platforms on April 30, 2022, on the occasion of the International Jazz Day. Designated by UNESCO in 2011, International Jazz Day is held annually to commemorate the artistic importance of jazz, its roots and its global impact on cultural development.
Conference "Copyright and collective management in times of crisis Covid-19 in Africa" - Friday, November 26, 2021 at 15h
Within the framework of the Forum of the professional meetings of Visa For Music 2021, festival and professional market of the musics of Africa and the Middle East, a conference was organized around the topic of the copyright. It took place in person with a digital transmission.
The current global pandemic has been particularly trying for the cultural sector and for artists and has raised many issues. Copyright is perceived as a means of cultural production and is the basis of any cultural funding model. The fact that many events are free has raised public morale, but it also poses a danger to artists who have not received remuneration for events broadcast online.
The Moroccan Copyright Office has done a tremendous amount of work to mitigate the negative impact of the Covid-19 crisis for creative artists through the distribution of royalties as well as neighboring rights for performers. This conference evoked the aspects related to the authors' rights, the collection but also the mutation of the diffusion today.
